4 New Microsoft Stream Features

Microsoft recently launched a new version of Stream called Stream on SharePoint . Unlike the classic version, which is not directly connected to Microsoft 365 and stores videos separately, this new version automatically saves your videos to SharePoint and allows them to be shared, based on Microsoft Stream permissions, across multiple applications in the Microsoft 365 environment as shown in the following diagram.

1. Recording Microsoft Teams Meetings with Microsoft Teams Transcription Integration

With today's remote and hybrid work setup, Microsoft Teams is one of the most frequently used tools for meetings and webinars. However, not all participants can join the session at the same time due to different time zones or other reasons. With this feature, meetings are recorded and shared for later viewing. To improve this experience, Stream can now display recorded meetings with their transcript provided that Teams Live Transcript is enabled for these scheduled meetings.

This feature is very useful for listeners and viewers who want to have a quick overview of the content and passages most relevant to them. It includes the meeting notes, the name of the speaker and any attachments.

Additionally, you can also find meeting content more easily in your Microsoft 365 entity with transcription. For all meeting recordings they have access to, a user can search for transcribed words in the meeting, as shown in the screenshot below, and all associated content will appear.

2. New captioning features

Subtitles are a very powerful resource when it comes to making videos more accessible. Like Microsoft Stream transcription, this feature is important for viewers who have hearing challenges or different language abilities. Stream will soon allow administrators to add captions with one click to allow users to generate captions even faster.

You can also manually upload your own subtitles. The file will be in Video Text Tracks (VTT) format. Just upload your own copy or download a template and then upload a correct version.

3. Overview of the admin-led migration from Microsoft Stream (Classic) to the new version of Microsoft Stream

This platform will allow administrators to easily migrate videos from the Classic version of Microsoft Stream to its new version. Admins can specify the target location and other details. This update will be deployed in November 2021 .

4. Video playback quality and scaling in Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint consistent with Microsoft Stream (Classic)

This update, currently rolling out, aims to improve video streaming performance and user experience for videos uploaded to Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and other Microsoft 365 apps with Al Rafay Consulting.
